An automobile oxygen sensor, also known as an O2 sensor or lambda sensor, is an important component of a vehicle's emissions control system. It is located in the exhaust system and measures the amount of oxygen present in the engine exhaust gases. The sensor produces a voltage signal that is sent to the engine control module (ECM), which uses the information to adjust the air-to-fuel ratio and optimize engine performance. A properly functioning oxygen sensor helps to ensure that the engine is running efficiently and that harmful pollutants are minimized. Over time, however, the sensor may become fouled or fail, leading to decreased engine performance and increased emissions. When this happens, the sensor will typically need to be replaced.
